Aqualen™ – a fibrous ion-exchange chelating sorbent, which is an integral part of the patented mixture for drinking water filters, created and developed by the AQUAPHOR Group exclusively for its household and commercial water filters.
Distinctive physical qualities of Aqualen™ include its ability to irreversibly bind heavy metals ions like lead, iron, mercury and radioactive isotopes.
The word “chelate” comes from the Greek word “chēlē”, which means “a claw”. In their chemical structure the Aqualen™ functional groups resemble the claws. The Aqualen™ “claws” snatch heavy metal ions out of the water and hold them in a death grip.
Another key Aqualen™ quality is to evenly spread the water across the whole mixture, widening the surface contact area by 33 times compared to conventional ion-exchange filters, thanks to the geometry of the material.
AQUALEN-3 anion-exchange fiber features:
- — a unique anion-exchange fiber based on a water-free modified polyacrilonitrile polymer backbone with various nitrogen-containing anion-exchange as well as carboxylic groups on its surface.
- — a unique combination of functional groups which offer an enhanced ability for the fibers to adsorb harmful anionic and cationic contaminants from water with high selectivity.
- — a high removal capacity for various ferrous and ferric (iron) compounds and can be used as superior pre-filtration material.
Isotropic Adsorbtion Matrix (IAM)

IAM is a manufacturing technology of a water filtration medium with high-density fine absorbents.
When Aqualen™ is mixed with granulated absorbents, IAM technology creates a synergistic effect, which means that the sorption mixture attains the unique qualities not present in the original components.
IAM prevents the channeling effect and ensures uniform water flow distribution throughout the filter.
CarbFiber Block (CFB)

AQUAPHOR CarbFiber Blocks contain Aqualen™ fibers, powdered activated carbon and binder. They exhibit several times lower flow resistance and higher capacity forward rust, heavy metals and other impurities.
CarbFiber Block (CFB) is a manufacturing technology of water filtration media with different degrees of porosity and is designed for water of any pollution level.
CFB significantly increases the lifespan of the replacement AQUAPHOR filters without compromising the purification quality.

Hollow fiber membranes are tiny tubes with porous walls and huge filtering surface. A pore diameter of 0.1 micrometers ensures reliable cut-off for microorganisms.
The hollow fiber is a universal shield. It provides a 99.99% guarantee of cutting off germs and bacteria, Giardia cysts and other intestinal parasites, removing the undissolved impurities and sediments.
Water-on-water storage tank (WWT) for RO systems

The uncompromising efficiency of the water-on-water storage tank is provided by its unique design. Unlike the classic RO air-on-water tanks, it fully utilizes the whole internal volume of water storage through the elastic wall, which separates source water from purified water.
The cycle starts when the filtered water mass naturally forces out the rejected water to the drain. When the drinking water faucet is turned on, the tap water starts filling in the dedicated section and pushes the purified water out. Note, in conventional air-on-water storage tank not less than one-third of is always occupied by air, which is a waste of valuable undersink space.
One of the greatest advantages of water-on-water tank technology is filtration speed, which is twice higher than provided by classic RO systems.
A highly substantial benefit for regions where water is an expensive resource is the ability to dramatically lower the drainage water amounts. One can save on water consumption for up to 9 tons per year compared to water-on-air tank systems.
